Why am I so disillusioned with this years race. Most likely because I have seen hardly any of the films. But I just get this feeling that things are going not go my way.
This years big guns all have had detractors. ‘Frost/Nixon’, ‘Revolutionary Road’, ‘Australia’, ‘Doubt’, ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ and ‘Changleing’ have been all met with a few loud nay-sayers. ‘Milk’ seems to be the only big film that has survived and is actually better than people originally thought.
Out of the ashes there are films that were not really on any ones radar at the beginning of the year. ‘The Wrestler’, ‘Rachel Getting Married’, ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ to name but a few. Usually this would cause me great excitement. But alas it does not.
At this moment it seems life has finally overtaken obsession (ie: I have been partying way too much). Either that or the damn time it takes for films to get to the UK is all but killing my filmic joys.
sigh

You still have 4 months!
nah...i totally feel you on this one. I think it's very much the fact that these films are all realeased late and either none of them are superb, or the haters are too loud.
i do hope as I get a chance to see more the excitement and energy will build.
i feel like other news events (olympics, election, economy) are far bigger stories that are more interesting than many of these movies so...there you go!
and i wonder what effect the writers strike had on this years film season?
hopefully the energy will build in time for award night.
i'm not loosing hope.
You should've mentioned WALL-E!
And Australia actually was amazing, don't listen to those dumb naysayers.
