Best Actress - Judi Dench

Ahh Judi Dench. Just when you thought she was going to sail on with her over abundance of charisma she smacks you in the face with a layered and manically mannered performance.
As Barbara Covett, Dench hones in on this woman’s bitterness at being over looked and forgotten. She is filled with rage and spit and a longing that is almost unbearable to watch. She commands the screen and dances circles around Cate Blanchett whilst doing so. There is not much more I want to add about this feat in acting, except what a shame she has to compete is such a strong category.

Oh by the way....god bless You Tube!!

Just wanted to share ... Picture it ..1979, I was 11 years old and it was the first time I saw a Judi Dench performance. In the tv movie 'On Giants Shoulders' Judi played Hazel Wiles, a middle-aged childless woman who lived on a remote farm with her husband and they decide to adopt a black boy who has no limbs because of a birth defect. Talk about challenging material,She was amazing!Even at that age I knew I was watching a brilliant actress, (This should have been my first sign about my theatrical side , funny how I missed that !) anyway , I just wanted to say that I know that America loves Judi but they have only got to know her over the last ten years but she has always been an outstanding performer almost everything she does is gold and always has been. Just look at the british Sitcoms she does so brilliantly, 'A Fine Romance' and 'As time Goes By'. I saw her in the West End play 'Amy's View' a few years ago and she was fantastic, she totally over shadowed the rest of the cast, her performance was awesome. What I am trying to say is it that although all the attention she gets from america now is great and rightly deserved I just wanted to say is that us true Judi fans loved her first, we were there applauding her way back when !!

Heh, you can still love YouTube. At least, until they shut you down also. Then the ranting and bitterness will come on their own. :)

As Time Goes By.........I miss that. she was so good in that. I love the fact she is challenging herself still today. This performance, in anyone elses hands, would have come off as one note. Judi crafts a history deep into this characters face and movement so much so that Judi Dench ceases to exist.

And yes Dean, you loved her way before I knew of her (really discovered her in 1993), so you can have Judi. But in the divorce Meryl is MINE!!!!!!!!

I may have to demand Toni Collette as well. But the Colour Purple will have to be split.
"I Loves Dean!! God knows I do!!! But I kill him dead before I let him take my Colour Purple DVD!!!!!!!"

Toni is yours , I can live with that ...But ... I want Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Julianne Moore and the cast of The Golden Girls ..If you are going to argue about it I am willing to let you have Bea Arthur but thats my limit, you can't have Betty White no way no how !
