Oscar – schmoscar.

Why am I so disillusioned with this years race. Most likely because I have seen hardly any of the films. But I just get this feeling that things are going not go my way.
This years big guns all have had detractors. ‘Frost/Nixon’, ‘Revolutionary Road’, ‘Australia’, ‘Doubt’, ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ and ‘Changleing’ have been all met with a few loud nay-sayers. ‘Milk’ seems to be the only big film that has survived and is actually better than people originally thought.

Out of the ashes there are films that were not really on any ones radar at the beginning of the year. ‘The Wrestler’, ‘Rachel Getting Married’, ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ to name but a few. Usually this would cause me great excitement. But alas it does not.

At this moment it seems life has finally overtaken obsession (ie: I have been partying way too much). Either that or the damn time it takes for films to get to the UK is all but killing my filmic joys.

Captain Jack - Oh My!

I think I may have a found a temporary ‘Buffy’ replacement. Not that anything could really replace one of the greatest TV shows of all time, but I have managed to get myself roped into something that is filled with humour, drama, bad special effects, and a plus from ‘Buffy’, gayer that a gay thing on a gay day.

Yes I am talking about ‘Torchwood’, a show that has more than once bought me to tears with not only it’s dramatic story writing, but also with some fantastic acting from various cast members especially Burn Gorman, Naoko Mori and Eve Myles.

After the heartbreakingly sad ending to season 2, I am wondering where the show is going to go with it’s 5 part season 3 mini series.

If it is as good as season 2, then I am unfortunately hooked.
