More and more comic movies…will they ever be exhausted??

Frank Miller , author of the graphic novels adapted into the features 300 and Sin City, will direct a live adaptation of Will Eisner's comicbook series The Spirit for Lionsgate. Miller also wrote the script. This will be Miller's first solo directing project, following his co-direction of Sin City with Robert Rodriguez. The Spirit chronicled the adventures of a masked vigilante who fought crime with the blessing of the city's police commissioner, an old friend. Despite the Spirit's origin as a detective named Denny Colt, his real identity was virtually unmentioned again and for all intents and purposes he was simply "The Spirit". His nemesis is the Octopus, who kills anyone who sees his face and is looking to wipe out the entire city. The start date for production on The Spirit will work around production on the Sin City sequel that Miller is making with Rodriguez.
With Sandman, The Watchmen, Aqua Man, Magneto, and Wonder Woman (to name but a very few) all being adapted from their comic/graphic novel origins one has to ask….Is there room for more?

Pulling off a movie adaptation of a comic/graphic novel is very difficult. “300” and “Sin City” had their fans, but also their distracters. Fan boys/girls are very vocal and also very influential with their opinions on these films and what they have to say should be listened to by the studios. “Watchmen” has A LOT to live up to, and could indeed fall flat as it is too dense a novel to be cut down into one two hour film, perhaps two films, but certainly not one.
Also since it has a release date of 2008 and it has yet to be cast, hopes do not hold high. “300” helmer Zack Snyder is directing and he needs to prove he can combine style and substance, which he has yet to prove. Style…yes, substance…no.
We will have to wait and see what happens with all of these. I will wait, without passion, and see what is said before I venture to my picture house and spend my money.
