Best Actress Predictions

1) Meryl Streep - Doubt
It have been over 20 years since Meryl Streep, arguably the greatest living actress in the world, has won an Oscar. This could be the role that makes the Academy finally say "It is about time she has another". (previous rank: 1)

2) Anne Hathaway – Rachel Getting Married
She is proving herself as an actress, now all she needs is to be recognized for this challenging role of a recovering addict. The reviews are there, and she is doing well with critics. A Lock. (previous rank: 5, 6, 10)

3) Sally Hawkins - Happy-Go-Lucky
Mike Leigh is great at getting his actresses nominations, especially in well liked films. Critics have already fallen in love with the performance in the US and the UK. The win at Berlin does not hurt at all. (previous rank: 3)

4) Kate Winslet - Revolutionary Road
It is not if Kate will ever win an Oscar, just a matter of when. She was a front runner when this was announced. With 'The Reader' either held up or going supporting she has a good shot here. However, you have to ask.....how good is the film? (previous rank: 4)

5) Melissa Leo – “Frozen River”
She is a respected character actress finally breaking out in a lead role (there is one every year it seems). The film won top prize at Sundance and the critics are behind her. She apparently carries the film on her back, but it is a small film. (previous rank: 7 ,NEW)

6) Angelina Jolie - Changeling
She was denied a much deserved nomination last year, and from the reaction at Cannes, she looked like a sure bet. However the critics here have not been so kind saying she is unfocused and not period enough. (previous rank: 8, 2)

7) Kristen Scott Thomas – “I’ve Loved You So Long”
Apparently she is sensational in this French language film. She plays an ex-con and is given her best role in ages. Can she make it back in the mix, this time speaking French. (previous rank: 2, NEW)

8) Cate Blanchett - 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'
With the category confusion seemingly out the way, and some of the reviews saying it is her best work (isn't it always). However the film need to go over really well to oust the ladies ahead.(previous rank: 7, NEW)

I'm agree with your predictions except for two facts:

1. The "6" position of Keira Knightley: The trailers didn't convince about she has a better role than "Pride & Prejudice" and I think she fails again, also, the test screeners received mixed reviews and Keira has of contenders not only Emily Blunt, now Michelle Pfeiffer
2. Don't count out two overdues actresses (Julianne Moore and Michelle Pfeiffer): Pfeiffer returns with Frears in a costume drama with a acclaimed novel and in cuestion of Moore instead the film received mixed to negative reviews, she has good reviews and with good campaign and critical love she can get her Oscar nomination for Blindness or Savage Grace (Remember Jessica Lange, Angelina Jolie, Diane Lane, Barbara Hershey, Cate Blanchett, Sean Penn and James Woods in last 15 years)

Knightley is mainly wishful thinking.
I am still not convinced "Cheri" will be finished in time, but once I am sure it is I will put Michelle up.
I am also not convinced Moore really has a shot, no matter how good she is. This is mainly because I am thinking this may be a good year for great female roles in fantastic movies. A great female role in an ok movie may not cut it.

As for Blunt. Not yet a fan. I see this as being a bit pantomime.

Well maybe is true, but it's the beginning of the race season and we know how survive and how doesn't; last year anyone was thinking than Christie and Cotillard could get with Oscar Nomination and at the end of the year they're were the two principal contenders and Cotillard won in a OK film and what's happen with a prior faves... Jodie Foster, keira Knightley, Uma Thurman...

Maybe it's my wishful thinking, but I'm support Julianne Moore (She has a tough and strong competition but it's possible) and Sophie Okonedo.

If Okonedo is brilliant which I know she can be and she gets in, I will be so happy!
