This Used to be My Oscar

Ok, not been buying or listening to any new music of late, but have been listening to a lot of Madonna.
I know, I know, you are shocked to the very core with surprise!
However, you know what occurred to me?
The woman has never been nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song!
No even once!
Never!
How can this be?

Do they view her like the Grammies used to view her? I mean she has written some great songs for the screen. Take a look:
1985 - Crazy For You
1985 - Gambler
1986 - Live To Tell
1987 - Who's That Girl
1987 - Causing a Commotion
1987 - Look Of Love
1992 - This Used To Be My Playground
1994 - I'll Remember
1999 - Beautiful Stranger
2002 - Die Another Day
You can take a look at the other nominees here here, some are understandable.....some so clearly are not.

Sure there are some memorable songs, but most of Madonna's are timeless. How come she has yet to score a single nomination? Sure she has performed twice (each time the song wins) but they never seem to want to give her any real credit!
Is she just too fabulous to receive an Oscar?
Would the site of her holding that award be too much fabulosity for people and their eye balls will melt?
Is the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences so afraid of global blindness?
Are they afraid of having to rely on Julianne Moore in order to survive because she may be a little miffed about not being rewarded with an Oscar?

I think yes.

i remember the pundits saying that she had a real shot and should have been nominated for Playground and I'll Remember, but missed out both times because she was still being punished for her Sex Period (the triple bomb Erotica + Body of Evidence + Sex book, and her infamous Letterman appearance). some puritanical americans never forgave her after that. sigh.

I don't blame you, I still think she was robbed of a Best Actress nomination for "Evita".

It is worth noting that she has performed two songs that did go on to win... both Sooner Or Later from Dick Tracy and You Must Love Me from Evita are still basically HER signature songs... even if she didn't write them. The truth is Madonna is just too fabulous and the Oscar's best song catagory is kind of... lame. They seem to be making some really odd/bad choices lately.
