Box - Love my box

She is probably the greatest female singer song writers ever.
She is also a one woman musical revolution.
My Knowledge is not as in depth as most of yours, but she has made a huge impact, and I am going to seek out her entire back catalogue. This I promise. I know my good friend Andra will help me out.
I am of course talking about Kate Bush, and her Birthday is coming up (on the 30th my friends) so I wanted to celebrate with three of my favorite songs by her.

1) Babooshka The song chronicles a wife's desire to test her husband's loyalty. To do so, she takes on the name of Babooshka and writes to her husband in the guise of a young, seductive woman. The mood of the song is one of barely contained feminine rage, bursting out into screams at the chorus. If only all ‘pop’ songs had this much depth and thought.

2) Running Up That Hill This deals with the trials and tribulations of a dying love. It sees Bush telling her lover in the song that "...if I only could I'd make a deal with God and get him to swap our places". She has described the song as being about the power of love, and how it can create such intense emotion that all rational thought is overpowered. It also is completely addictive.

3) This Womans Work The lyrics of the song are about being forced to suddenly confront reality and adulthood in times of crisis. I see this as a conversation between a wife who has died and her grieving husband. The music video depicts this perfectly. There are very few songs that will bring me to tears. This is one of them. I would go so far as to say that this piece is perfection.

Have a listen to 'Breathing', a track taken from the 1980 album 'Never For Ever' of which Babooshka came. It is about a child, still in vitro, during a nuclear attack. God, it is frightening but superbly written.
